Information for Teachers & Schools

THE SOLUTION

The article "Small-Scale Bullying Prevention Discussion Video For Classrooms: A Preliminary Evaluation" published in the Oxford Journal in April 2013 by authors Tom Migliaccio and Juliana Raskauskas describes the methods they used to try and prevent bullying. Both authors are professors at Sacramento State University and have done a lot of work with bullying and child development. In their experiment, they surveyed elementary school aged children about bullying and bullying behaviors. They then had them participate in a video-discussion model, accompanied with a survey after the video. The results showed that after participating in the video-discussion model, there was a decrease in the amount of reported bullying. That is just one example of the types of methods that teachers and schools can use to prevent bullying.
